Procedures
Before the Match:
- Safety first! The referees must ensure that the playing court, equipment and free zone (the area surrounding the court) are safe, and present no hazards to the team members.
- Prior to the toss, ensure your team list is correct
- After the toss, Captains and coaches are to sign the scoresheet
- Remember the team to serve first warms up first when doing seperate hitting warm up at the net. You must be in full playing uniform when hitting during the official warm up.
During the Match:
- At the start of the first set, after the warm up, the starting 6 players are to wait at the end line of their respective courts and wait for the referee to invite them onto court (The libero should be waiting by the team bench).
- The 1st referee whistles the teams onto the court, the 2nd Referee checks line ups and then allows the libero’s to enter the match.
- At the end of each set the six players on the court move to the end line and wait for the 1st Referee to invite them to change ends.
- On the 1st Referees instruction (whistle and hand signal) teams then change courts, moving around the posts. Once past the posts players may move directly to their bench.
- To begin the next set a team is not required to begin at the base line, but may enter the court (on the whistle of the 2nd referee) from the side of the court by their team bench.
- Remember the only player permitted to ask questions of the referee corps is the Captain.
End of the Match:
- Shake hands with your opponent and referees, stay on your side of the court and shake hands under the net as you pass.
- At the end of the match, Captains are to sign the scoresheet, but only once it has been completed by the scorer
